How did we get here?

I’m currently in Istanbul, Turkey. To be honest, I never really dreamed of going to Turkey. Although I suppose if I had been forced to make a list of Middle Eastern countries I would visit, back in the days when I lived in America, it would have been second, right below Israel. Which is ironic since I would never go to Israel now. Not after hearing so many first hand accounts of how they’ve terrorized other countries and ruined lives, with zero remorse. But that is a story for another day…

The point is that I didn’t have any pressing desire to go to Turkey. Even after moving to the Middle East, it wasn’t really a must-see. I would much rather go to Jordan or Lebanon, you know? But I have two friends in Istanbul at the moment and it was more or less on my way home, so there you go.

That’s sort of how my life has been going since I graduated from school. I make a vague plan for where things should head, or I have some goals I attempt to obtain, and then something comes up and my course totally changes. Which is sometimes great, and sometimes awful, and sometimes you end up in Istanbul…

ISTANBUL! Gosh, I’d love to go. I think Turkish Airlines (or was it Airways?) has some deals from the East Coast every now and then, so I’m always on the lookout for ’em.
